FRA Children's Book Award

The Florida Reading Association invites students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 2 to participate in the Children's Book Award program. This program encourages exposure to recent quality literature and involves children in giving recognition to their favorite book on the list.

Book Selection

Each year a committee selects eight titles from the nominated books. The books selected must have been copyrighted within the last five years and be currently in print. Care has been taken to choose both fiction and nonfiction. Nominations for books to be considered for the next school year are due by December 15.  (Recommend a book)

Award Procedure

Once students have heard at least five of the eight Children's Book Award titles, they are eligible to vote. Votes are to be sent to the Children's Book Award chairman by downloading a form to print and fax or can done electronically online. Ballots must be received no later than April 15. The winning books will be posted on the FRA website (www.flreads.org) by May 1st.

Registration

Schools are asked to submit a completed form indicating their intent to participate between September 1 and December 17. Packets of ideas and other free materials will be sent to registered schools beginning in early November. Those schools registering after December 17th will be welcome to vote, but are not guaranteed a complete packet.
