Would you like to be a published author?

If you answered “yes” to these questions, we want you to write a book hook and enter our contest.

Sunshine State Young Reader’s Book Titles 2007-2008

Grades 3-5

Grades 6-8

Three Student Book Hooks will be selected.

Grand Prize:	Published in FRA publication and a copy of each Sunshine State Book from either Grades 3-5 or Grades 6-8 Sunshine State Young Reader’s Books
First Prize:	Published in FRA publication
Second Prize:	Published in FRA publication

What is a FRA Book Hook? It is a short paragraph or two which seeks to get the reader to want to read the book you are trying to sell. The Book Hook does not tell the entire book but it does give the reader enough information that they get an idea of what the book is about. It should grab the attention of the reader and include the items listed below in the rubric. Good Luck!!!!

Did I tell an interesting part from the story?	Included a part so good that we want to buy it or read it!	Told a part but not enough to get us to buy or read the book.	Forgot to tell an interesting part from the book.
Did I tell who might like this book?	Recommended book to people with an explanation.	Recommended book but did not give an explanation.	Forgot to recommend and tell who might like the book.
Did I follow the guidelines of the contest (see below)?	Followed all guidelines for FRA Book Hook.	Followed most FRA Book Hook guidelines.	Did not follow FRA Book Hook guidelines.

FRA Book Hook Guidelines:

Typed and double-spaced.

In Times or Ariel Font, size 12.

Two pages or less.

Student contact information is included on back of book hook (name of student writer, address, telephone number, school’s name and grade level).

Must be original work (not copied or taken from someone else). Any plagiarism will result in an automatic disqualification.

The title and author of the Sunshine State book must be included.

Book Hook due by January 31, 2008, postmarked by January 29, 2008. Notification of winners Spring, 2008.
