Reading Cruise

Carnaval's "Glory"The Florida Reading Association and Rollins College announce the first “Reading Cruise” designed to help teachers work toward their Florida Reading Endorsement sailing July 7-14, 2007, on the Carnival Cruise Line shipGlory.

If you are an elementary or secondary teacher working toward your Florida Reading Endorsement, you can work on Competency #2 while cruising in the Eastern Caribbean. We will depart from Port Canaveral on Carnival’s Glory for a seven-day cruise with stops in Nassau, Bahamas, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten. Bring the whole family and enjoy your time learning and playing on this fabulous cruise.

Day 3 Day at Sea; Class from 8:00am - 5:00pm

Day 4 St. Thomas, USVI 10:00am - 8:00pm

Day 6 Day at Sea; Class from 8:00am - 5:00pm

Day 7 Day at Sea; Class from 8:00am - 5:00pm

Day 8 Port Canaveral (Orlando), FL 7:00am

To hold a cabin for the cruise, complete the registration form on the back and send the form and your registration fee to Dr. Debra Wellman, C/O Reading Cruise, 4021 Haws Lane, Orlando, FL 32814. To register for the course, EDU 599 – Foundations of Research-Based Practices, go to http://www.rollins.edu/holt/gradeducation/ReadingCruise/ and follow the application instructions.

FRA’s travel agent will contact you with further details and payment options. Prices below are individual prices based on two people per cabin and include taxes and port charges but not tips. Please check the type of cabin you prefer:

  • Inside Cabin (no windows) $804
  • Oceanview Cabin (Port hole/window) $933
  • Balcony Cabin (private balcony) $1133 

To Register and hold a cabin for the cruise:

  • Complete the attached registration form. (pdf)
  • Enclose a check to Florida Reading Association for the registration fee ($50 for FRA members or $100 for nonmembers.) Spouses and friends going on the cruise but not taking the course do not need to pay registration fees.
  • Include $250 per passenger deposit for the cruise by March 30
  • Mail your check made out to FRA and registration form to: Dr. Debra Wellman, C/O Reading Cruise, 4021 Haws Lane, Orlando, FL 32814

To Register for the Reading Course through Rollins College

  • Go to www.rollins.edu/holt/gradeducation/ReadingCruise
  • Follow the Instructions for Completing the Application; there is a $50 application fee.
  • Complete the Application for Graduate Studies Admission, The Hamilton Holt School Registration Form and send the application fee and deposit to Rollins College.
  • Tuition for the 3 hour MED course EDU 599 is $1092.
